The Coca-Cola Malta Music Awards 2009 will be held on:
Saturday, 5th December 2009 at the MFCC
Since 1995 music artists in Malta have been recognised for their hard work and for bringing pleasure to thousands through their music in an event that now needs no introduction. The Malta Music Awards were the very first attempt to reward the achievements of musicians, producers and performers on these islands. From the very first edition, winning a Malta Music Award has been an accolade much coveted by the creative personalities involved in the Maltese music scene, be they singers, musicians, songwriters and music, video or web producers.
The Awards also have a reputation as being a ‘great night out’, with an exceptional history of record attendances. The first five editions, held at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta, were gala nights attended by all the influential people in the local music industry. The 2001 Awards were incorporated into the Heineken Jammin’ Festival at Ta’ Qali and attended by thousands of members of the public and the events since then have included the 2003 Carlsberg Music Awards at the Eden Arena in St Julian’s, presented by MTV VJ Neil Cole and with world famous DJ Bob Sinclair as special guest, and last year’s much talked-about event at the MFCC, which featured European hit makers Frank Ti-Aya and Supafly Inc.
How the Coca-Cola Malta Music Awards 2009 work
Local music artists are invited to submit their nominations for the category they qualify for on the website www.musicawards.com.mt by 10th November 2008. Nominations received after that date will not be considered.
To be considered for an award, artists must have produced a single, album and/or video between 1 October 2008 and 30 September 2009. Websites do not have a time constraint and may be submitted for nomination even if the artist has not released anything in the above mentioned time period.
A panel of judges with experience in the music industry will then be presented with all the nominations received and they will come up with a final list of nominees as well as an eventual winner in each category, to be announced at the awards.
